Description: Join us as we open the 2010 Orange County Distinguished Speaker Series with the first installment:

The Science and Engineering of Artificial Sight

Mark Humayun , M.D., Ph.D., professor of ophthalmology, Keck School of Medicine of USC and the Doheny Eye Institute

MARK S. HUMAYUN, M.D., Ph.D., is a member of the National Academies of Medicine, Cornelius J. Pings Chair in Biomedical Sciences, and a professor at the USC Keck School of Medicine. He is the director of the National Science Foundation Biomimetic Microelectronic Systems Engineering Research Center and the director of the U.S. Department of Energy's Artificial Retina Project.

Dr. Humayun will discuss his research which focuses on the treatment of the most debilitating and challenging eye diseases through advanced engineering, ultimately giving sight to the blind.

Tickets are $15 and include light refreshments.
